All seminars are completely free — our goal is to make education as equitable as possible. All you need is a device that connects to the internet, and you’re good to go!

This varies a lot depending on the seminar! Some seminars will be heavily discussion-based, while others are lecture-based. Your instructor will be contacting you through Ed and hosting seminars through Zoom. Ed is the online communication platform Wave Learning Festival will be using. Here, instructors can post announcements, inspire discussion, and upload their resources, and students can participate in outside-the-seminar room discussions and meet other like-minded students!

Each seminar’s description outlines the content that will be covered, as well as the suggested audience.

Not at all. Anyone can take any seminar they are interested in. It may be helpful to have some background in certain subjects before taking certain seminars, but there is no formal requirement. If there is a prerequisite, it will be listed in the seminar description.

For our summer Wave sessions, your child can indicate whether they want to be enrolled in 1 or 2 seminars on the registration form. They can rank up to 5 different seminars, and we will try our best to accommodate their preferences.

There are multiple reasons your child could be waitlisted in a seminar: (1) the seminar has reached its maximum seminar size, (2) they have been enrolled in other seminars higher in priority on your registration form, (3) the seminar has a strict grade level restriction, and they are outside that grade range, and (4) the waitlisted seminar conflicts in seminar time with a higher priority seminar that they are already enrolled in.

Seminars will be held live over Zoom. We are also working to expand resources for students without stable Wi-Fi or live in inconvenient time zones. Wave is in the process of developing an asynchronous materials library with recordings posted to our YouTube channel or website for students with time conflicts. Check back for more updates!

Yes! Each seminar has a target grade range that reflects the workshop’s difficulty. You are welcome to register for any seminar you’d like; however, it’s important to consider the difficulty of a seminar as you select your favorite options. Some seminars have restricted grade ranges, meaning you may not register for the seminar if you are outside of the range.

It depends on the seminar! Instructors decide whether or not they’d like to assign homework, but any assigned homework will be optional.

Unfortunately no, but your child can learn about the seminars we are offering during the current session to start planning which topics they’re interested in exploring for future sessions!

Yes! We use a platform called Ed that allows your child to discuss topics with their Wavemates and instructors, either publicly or privately.

On their student dashboard, they should see a list of seminars you registered for. Underneath each seminar is an option to withdraw registration.

We will be offering the following additional resources to all students, free of charge:

• providing small-group tutoring for students who may need assistance in any school subject (visit Tutoring to learn more)
• continue featuring speaker events that help students learn about topics from the perspective of a professional (visit Events to learn more)
• maintaining our Discord community where students can receive live study help and other assistance from Wave’s tutors and instructors, as well as connect with other students around the globe.

We will CC parents in all email communications we send to students, and teachers will never meet one-on-one with any student or directly message any student under 18 years old without explicit consent from the parent. We will not distribute student or parent emails to outside parties under any circumstance without explicit consent from the student and parent. All of our teachers have been thoroughly vetted.

Wave Tutors are talented students with a desire to help others improve their academic skills. They come from high schools and colleges all around the world and are here to help you out in whatever way they can. Wave Tutors are from 11th grade and above, reside all over the world, and showcase the diversity in academic excellence. They go through a vetting process involving a written application, one-on-one interviews with Wave’s Curricular Support team, and submit documentation of their relevant past experience.

Wave Tutoring provides support for both middle school and high school students in the following subjects:

• Math: Pre-Algebra/Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra2/Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics
• Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science
• Language: Spanish, French, Chinese
• Humanities: English, US History, World History, Economics, Psychology

Students can create their own Wave accounts anytime by clicking here to sign up. After logging in to their account, students join tutoring sessions from their student dashboard. Students will be able to filter tutors through by subject and the specific times they will be hosting their tutoring sessions, and view tutors’ bios.

All tutoring is done online through Zoom and is accessed through the Wave student dashboard. A single tutoring session will accommodate up to 5 students in order to ensure a more personal and focused session. Students may join the tutoring session until the 5 student cap has been filled. At that point, those not in the session will be able to join a queue.

Tutoring sessions will be held between 3pm ET and 9pm ET on weekdays and from noon ET to 9pm ET weekends.

Tutoring sessions are scheduled for one hour—students should reserve a spot before the session begins.

No, students are free to leave anytime during the session, once their questions have been answered.

Wave Learning Festival will not give out a tutor’s contact information to be contacted outside of their scheduled tutoring session. Tutors may choose to provide their contact information to students on an individual basis, but any information given out will be the tutor’s decision.

Tutoring services will begin October 1st, 2021!
